I'm in St. George this weekend and so we went to the St. George Temple visitors center. This video was playing in one of the rooms. I had never heard this story before and I was so touched by it that I wanted to see if it could be watched on lds.org. Sure enough it was there. It is the story of John Tanner and how he saved the Kirtland Temple and ended up selling everything he had (even an island) and giving it to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
